New AESOP Vice-President

At the last AESOP Council of Representatives in Venice, Maros Finka was elected as the future AESOP President, for the mandate running from July 2020 to July 2022.

Maros Finka, from the Department of Spatial Planning, Institute of Management of STU (Slovak University of Technology), will be acting as AESOP Vice-President from July 2019 to July 2020 and also from July 2022 to July 2023.

New YAN Representative

Agnes Matoga is the new Young Academics Network Representative in the AESOP Executive Committee.

The PhD candidate at the Faculty of Spatial and Environmental Planning (University of Kaiserslautern) replaced Daan Bossuyt, the former YAN Representative.

The AESOP Community warmly welcomes Agnes Matoga and acknowledges Daan Bossuyt's most valuable contribution to both the ExCo and the YAN in the previous year.

Special Issue Call for Planning Theory on the Impact of Hardin’s ‘Tragedy of the Commons’

This call builds from a joint ACSP/AESOP panel session in 2018 titled “After Hardin.”

The goal of this special issue is to conduct a scholarly autopsy on the role that Hardin’s Tragedy has wrought on planning theory. Such a close examination is urgent as planning seeks to reinvent itself in solving ever-escalating humanitarian crises, as highlighted by keynote speakers at these ACSP and AESOP conferences.

On behalf of Artur R. Pires and myself – as coordinators for the TG Planning education – a huge thank you for the keen interest and enthusiasm in regards to the Planning Education Thematic Group.

We had two short lunchtime meetings during the 2019 AESOP congress (9-13 July) which were filled with wonderfully lively dialogue and discussion. It was fantastic to feel the energy amongst the group members attending. 

Over the next year we want to progress the ideas proposed at the meetings.

Dear AESOP Community,

This is the last newsletter I send you as Secretary General of our Association. It has been a great pleasure and honour to work with you all.
