We are extremely happy and proud to announce that almost a thousand abstracts were submitted for the Silver Jubilee AESOP Congress. The Local Organizing Committee and the track co-chairs are now busy reviewing this extraordinary number of abstracts. Our special word of gratitude goes to Dr Ela Bablik-Sutcliffe, who is responsible for the cooperation between the AESOP Executive Committee and the Local Organizing Committee at the Middle East University in Ankara. AESOP is deeply indebted to all members of the LOC in Ankara for their extremely hard and efficient work.
We will keep you informed about the progress of the preparations of the Congress. Thank you for your contribution and see you all in Ankara!

AESOP wishes to thank and express gratitude to Dr. Beata Banachowicz for the mission she has completed with the end of 2011 within the AESOP Executive Committee as the Thematic Group Officer. Dr Banachowicz’s contribution to the everyday functioning of the organisation has not been unnoticed, and the whole of the ExCo has greatly appreciated her input. The ExCo has been happy to be able to work with a person of her skills and commitment level in a position of major significance for the Association.

Association of European Schools of Planning would like to thank Technische Universität Dortmund, Faculty of Spatial Planning (Fakultät Raumplanung) and express our gratitude for the organization of the AESOP Birthday Meeting (27th – 28th January), which opened the celebrations of our Silver Jubilee. The team from Dortmund has shown tremendous dedication to the task and remarkable reliability. The event has been handled very smoothly, and we have had no signs of anyone being less than happy with the weekend we spent in Dortmund. We consider the cooperation with very successful and pleasurable.

Schloss Cappenberg is a place of extraordinary meaning for AESOP. Here, on 24th January 1987, Klaus R. Kunzmann managed to gather a group of enthusiastic academics who decided to found a new association that would bring together European planning schools.

In 2012, the AESOP members will receive their invoices in the new way – they will be generated under the control of the AESOP Treasurer, Professor Thomas Matta, by our new system and sent by email to our Member institutions.
