Best Published Paper Award New Committee Members

As 2018 comes to a close, AESOP would like to express its sincere thanks to three outgoing members of the Best Published Paper Award Committee for their dedication and service: Karina Pallagst (outgoing chair, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany); Umberto Janin Rivolin (Politecnico di Torino, Italy); and Roelof Verhage ( (University Lumiere Lyon II, France).

AESOP would like to warmly welcome three new members to the Best Published Paper Award Committee: Lauren Andres (University of Birmingham, UK); Anna Hersperger (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research, Switzerland); and Mark Scott (University College Dublin, Ireland). All three new committee members join the committee in 2019.

The new committee members will work alongside Dominic Stead (committee chair, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands), Garri Raagmaa (University of Tartu, Estonia) and Mohamed Saleh (YAN Representative, University of Groningen, Netherlands).

2019 AESOP Annual Congress in Venice

The 2019 AESOP Congress will take place in Venice, from 9 to 13 of July.

The congress invites scholars and practitioners to reflect on the theme:

Ben Davy AESOP President 2018–2020

In the closing session of the 2018 AESOP Congress in Gothenburg, Ben Davy (University of Dortmund) succeeded Anna Geppert (University Paris IV Sorbonne) as AESOP President.

Anna Geppert, who will be AESOP Vice President through the 2019 AESOP Congress in Venice, during her tenure strongly supported the AESOP Knowledge Management and Sharing Platform (AEKOM) developed by Camilla Perrone, Alex Deffner, Michele Campagna, Paulo Silva, Tijana Dabovic, Anaïs de Keijser and Jan Schreurs.

In his first speech as president, Ben Davy confirmed AESOP’s continuing support for the AEKOM project and encouraged all AESOP members to complete the AEKOM questionnaire.

Over the next years, AESOP will strengthen its international activities inside and outside of Europe. As a first step, two special sessions at the 2018 AESOP Congress were dedicated to a renewed cooperation between ACSP (Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning) and AESOP.

AESOP New President

Since the AESOP Congress in Gothenburg, Prof. Ben Davy is the new AESOP President for a 2 year mandate ending on July 2020.

Ben Davy, a Professor at the School of Spatial Planning, Technische Universität Dortmund (Germany), has been a very active member of the AESOP Community for several years and one of the co-founders of the International Academic Association on Planning, Law and Property Rights (PLPR).

AESOP Secretary General 2019-2023

Angelique Chettiparamb was elected AESOP Secretary General 2019-2023.


Angelique Chettiparamb (University of Reading) will replace Paulo Pinho (University of Porto) as AESOP Secretary General after the 2019 AESOP Congress in Venice.

The election occured at the Council of Representatives Meeting during the AESOP 2018 Congress in Gothenburg. Angelique Chettiparamb will be working as AESOP  Vice-Secretary General in 2018-2019.

New YAN Representative

Daan Bossuyt is the new Young Academics Network Representative in the AESOP Executive Committee.

The PhD candidate in Urban Planning at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) replaced Anaïs De Keijser the former YAN Representative.

Transactions Call for Special Issue - Planning for Dignity

Transactions of the Association of European Schools of Planning, AESOP's new online open-access journal invites contributions to a Special Issue on "Planning for Dignity". 


Deadline for submission: 31st of October 2018.

New AESOP Auditors

We are pleased to announce that the AESOP Council of Representatives has ratified the ExCo Proposal to nominate Jan Schreurs (KU Leuven) and Abdelillah Hamdouch (Université de Tours) as the new AESOP Auditors (2018-2022).

On behalf of the whole AESOP community we would like to express our warmest congratulations to the new AESOP Officials! We are looking forward to a fruitfull collaboration.

The ratification was held at the CoRep Meeting in Newcastle, on April 19th 2018. 

AESOP would like to express a special acknowledgement to Louis Albrecht and Andreas Voigt, the first AESOP Auditors, who have shown an enormous dedication and competence in AESOP's financial auditing and whose advices have always proven to be very valuable.
