My research interests focus on the emerging field of marine planning, by which the principles of spatial planning are now being extended offshore. I am interested in the institutional arrangements being put in place, especially in north European nations.

I am also exploreing more theoretical aspects of this new endeavour, such as tracing the conceptual origins of marine planning and questions of the interpretation and representation of space in these initiatives.

A related strand of research deals with the rapid uptake of offshore wind energy, investigating the factors contributing to the growth of this major new form of renewable energy.
