The University of Stavanger is looking for an Associate Professor in City and Regional Planning
The subject area for the position is city and regional planning with a special focus on development and design of sustainable and livable urban areas, as well as carbon neutral and smart urban neighbourhoods, infrastructure and society.
As an Associate Professor, you will primarily teach and supervise students at bachelor's, Master’s and PhD level within the subject area, conduct research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of partnerships with businesses.
The development/use of digital and diverse learning methods, innovation, value creation based on results from research, and academic development work, will be included in the position.
Academic community:
The position is organisationally affiliated to the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of safety, economics and planning.
Education and research within city and regional planning is conducted by the academic group within planning and is very multi- and inter-disciplinary. We are looking for an active researcher with competence in city and regional planning and sustainable urban development. The existing academic group has expertise in among other sustainable development in a climate perspective, urban design and densification, transport and mobility planning, technical infrastructure, regional planning, energy efficiency, as well as urban planning theory and methods. The goal is to cover research and teaching in a wide range of aspects within city and regional planning.
Qualification requirements:
We are seeking an associate professor with a PhD or equivalent qualification in city and regional planning.
Applicants with a specialisation within physical planning, architecture or civil engineering will be preferred, but applicants specialising in societal planning, human geography or equivalent may also be considered.
We are looking for a person with a specialisation within one or several of the following topics:
- sustainable city and regional development (e.g. quality of life and built environment,
- integrated transport and land use planning,
- urbanization processes,
- modelling or simulation of urban development,
- politics and administration, landscape and environmental management)
- physical planning and regulation,
- urban design technical planning and infrastructure construction (e.g. VVA, blue-green infrastructure, BIM) smart cities
- Experience with practical or theoretical planning and related processes in a Nordic context will be emphasized.
- Competence withing digital CAD and/or GIS tool is an advantage.
You must be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills relating to higher education, and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. If you do not meet the competence requirement you must complete a university pedagogy course within a period of two years of the appointment start date. The course will be provided by the university.
The working and teaching languages are Norwegian and English. If you do not have a good command of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, you must acquire Norwegian language skills equivalent to level B2 within a period of three years from the appointment start date. If required, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid for by the university. Candidates who can teach in Norwegian or another Scandidavian language will be preferred as teaching and supervision at bachelor’s level is in Norwegian.
In the absence of applicants with sufficient scientific expertise, the university may consider temporarily designating an appointee for up to three years, during which time he/she will endeavour to gain the qualifications necessary for a permanent position. The applicant must be capable of gaining the necessary qualifications during the period of employment.
